Jamie Barnard (London) and Catherine Armitage (Brussels) visit to talk about Data Ethics

World Federation of Advertisers Data Ethics

Consumer trust is at an all time low

Monday 10th May provided the final #AAIToolkit date in advance of the summer seminar break. Our international visitors Catherine Armitage (Director of Digital Policy, World Federation of Advertisers), Jamie Barnard (General Counsel, Global Media, Marketing & eCommerce, Unilever) and Lauren Walker (Chief Data Officer EMEA, Dentsu Aegis Network) each provided thought-provoking context to the amount of data in circulation today. Large as it already is, the amount will increase exponentially over the coming years. A movement towards ethical data collection and use is therefore encouraged.

Jamie summarised ethical practice as being ‘the space between having the right to do something and doing the right thing‘.  Together Jamie and Catherine propose that ethical data use will become a ‘new power’ and value for organisations. When people know that a company is fully ethical with a consumer’s data it will become a competition advantage.
